Robots Go Rogue with Girls at the Helm

Eleven girls came together on Saturday to learn about electric circuits and robotoics.  The workshop hosted by the UO Women in Graduate Science, the Science Factory and the Science Program to Inspire Creativity and Excellence was designed to give girls a chance to get comfortable with electronic components and build their very own "vibrobots."  Read more at the Register-Guard online.

October 19, 2009 Michael Raymer has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Optical Society of America for a three-year term beginning January 2010.

OCO Alum appointed to tenure track position at Oxford University, UK

 

January 27, 2010 Brian Smith, who earned his PhD in the OCO in 2008, has accepted a tenure-track faculty position in the Physics Department at the University of Oxford. He is also a University Lecturer in Keble College. His research area is quantum optics and quantum information. Congratulations to Brian!

OCO to host Science, Stewardship and Policy Symposium

The Oregon Center for Optics has been awarded $10,000 to host an interdisciplinary conference on issues at the intersection of scientific research, public policy and social impacts.  The symposium will be held in October 2010.

SPICE! Receives $8,000 Laserfest Award

The Science Program to Inspire Creativity and Excelllence Recieves a LaserFest on the Road 2010, sponsored by the American Physical Scociety and the Optical Society of America.
