Have you ever wished you had an invisibility cloak or gone looking for the end of the rainbow? This camp will introduce you to the concepts of optics - the area of physics that studies the properties of light

We will explore basic phenomena involving light, lasers and optical instruments. You will learn about refraction, reflection, diffraction and dispersion. You will get to build your own spy periscope, telecopes and spectrometers.

Who can participate?
Students who will be in the 6th through 12th grades in Fall 2008.
What is the participation cost?
There is a $10 application fee. If you are accepted the application fee will be applied to the $50 materials fee. Scholarships are available for students who cannot afford the materials fee.
Where?
Camp will be held on the University of Oregon Campus in Willamette Hall.
When?
June 23-27, 10:00am-3:00pm daily.
Selection Criteria:
15 participants will be selected on a competetive basis. Students from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Application Information

  • Application form attached (or online)
  • Brief essay (1 page) describing why you would like to participate and what makes you a good candidate
  • 1 letter for recommendation from a science teacher is recommended, but not required.
  • Application Fee ($10)
